The Case for “Alien Malevolence”, in my Judgment, is Wanting.

Joseph Burkes MD 2019, updated 2025

On another social media page, a dialogue ensued on the topic of alleged ET malevolence. It was posted in response to Tom Delonge’s expressed delight concerning the possible use of nuclear weapons against “ETs.” Alleged alien abductions, cattle mutilations, dangerous transfers of technology, and DNA tampering were the charges leveled against the so-called aliens. Here is my response.

  1. Abductions: I believe that some individuals are being physically taken from familiar environments without apparent consent and they are compelled to interact with the alleged ETs. The most famous example is Travis Walton. He unfortunately approached a saucer imprudently and was hit by an energy blast that may have been part of an automated defense system. This resulted in serious injury. His condition might have conceivably involved cardiac arrest. He was subsequently treated by a non-human intelligence (NHI) and was returned several days later. He has expressed gratitude for this healing.

In another case, this time drawn from the Foundation for Research into ET and Extraordinary Encounters (FREE) Experiencer Survey, a woman that chose the pseudonym “Shannon” reportedly experienced recurrent forced interactions with grey skin-colored beings for over 25 years. She told me that these alleged ETs carried out biological evaluations on her during her reproductive years. Over time, she reportedly developed a close personal relationship with one of these aliens. This was because he had repeatedly reassured her and made her feel more comfortable during the intrusive evaluations. As the years passed, she began to feel that they were like family.

Shannon came to my attention in the course of my writing up her case in Chapter 6 in FREE’s compendium, “Beyond UFOs.” My co-author Preston Dennett and I described UAP associated medical healings. Shannon suffered for over 20 years with chronic fatigue syndrome that had a devastating effect on her and her family as she became disabled from work and many activities of daily living. Like Travis Walton, she too was healed by the “aliens.” This occurred after she encountered a channeler who allegedly was in communication with the race of beings that she was interacting with, the so-called “Greys.” Shannon asked the channeler to request that they heal her chronic fatigue syndrome. A few days later she had another “abduction.” After a painful procedure that made her feel like every muscle is her body was being “electrocuted”, she awoke totally healed.

In contrast to these physical events, what if many, perhaps even most “abductees” are not removed from their environments? After all, few abductions have been well documented as physical experiences. There are no video recordings or police observations documenting these events as criminal acts. In my judgment, UFO intelligences can create theater of the mind encounters. These appear to employ some kind of advanced “virtual reality” technology to interact psychically with human subjects. So if these “abductees” go nowhere, is it still an “abduction”? The term “Unsolicited Psychic Interaction” (UPI) is one that I suggest is more accurate when there is no evidence of a physical encounter. Alas, the popular culture won’t celebrate this more objective name in scary movies and at UFO conferences.

This stated, I have no doubt that a small but still significant group of contact experiencers, whether they are physically or psychically interacting with UAP intelligences, find their encounters psychologically traumatic. FREE’s Experiencer Survey involved over 4000 individuals that were asked to describe their recollections of encounters that did not involve the use of hypnosis. The results were that around 85 to 90 percent of the responders (depending how the questions were framed) found their interactions to be either neutral or positive. This large group, representing the overwhelming majority of experiencers, did not want their encounters to stop.

2.Cattle Mutilations: These are frightful to the general public and devastating to the ranchers whose livelihoods are threatened by them. I believe that only some are done by Black Ops units in what might be “copycat” operations. This means that non-human intelligence has been doing much of this activity. Allegedly, the poor beasts are being killed and cut up for monitoring purposes by NHIs. This assertion is based on the notion that the ETs are studying the accumulation of radiation and other toxins in mammals similar to humans. If this were true, it could hardly be considered as malevolent. These dissections numbering thousands should be seen in contrast to the hundreds of millions of animals slaughtered in the cruelest ways for food. This is particularly tragic because vegetable substitutes for meat protein are available. For these reasons, I have trouble seeing what are called “mutilations” as proof of ET malevolence.

3. Poisonous transfers of technology: For decades, I have read about alleged ET liaison with national militaries. Some flying saucer designs developed by Nazi engineers are used as proof for this assertion. What would be more convincing however is identifying credible eyewitnesses to such collaboration. I am referring to people like Werner Von Braun and the dozens of other former Nazi scientists whose contributions to US space technology is undoubted. To my knowledge, no scientists of their ilk, or any others have ever given testimony of such collaboration with “aliens.” I am left with the impression that such accusations, as is with so much in this field, are the stuff of myth. It is a mythology that in my judgement helps create a subculture of suspicion and fear.

4. Genome modification: In March of 2019 I returned from a conference in Laughlin Nevada where several presenters repeatedly referred to an alleged ET-human hybrid program as if this was fact. From my research on medical healings from the FREE Experiencers’ Research Survey, I have no doubt that NHI has extraordinary bioengineering capacities. I suspect that perhaps the ETs could make hybrids if they chose to do so.

Currently however, the only sources that we have supporting hybridization are derived from alleged ET communications. Almost all this information comes from channelers or experiencers that have undergone hypnosis for “memory retrieval.” The use of hypnosis is controversial because it can produce false memories. This is especially so when a subject, placed in a highly suggestible state, is led by a hypnotist as a form of investigation rather than for strictly clinical purposes. Unscrupulous researchers with personal agendas are then able to lead witnesses and extract testimony that conforms with their biases.

I am of the opinion that even if such testimony concerning “hybrids” accurately reflects actual communications with NHI, I am still dubious as to their value. I state this because it is my assessment that UFO Intelligences are often deliberately deceptive in much of our communications with them. They have extraordinary psi capability to stage convincing illusions as mechanisms of contact. I call these anomalous encounters “Virtual Experiences.”

My concern here is following: By not vigorously opposing the accusations of ET malevolence and being open to the “possibilities” of criminal acts by the so-called ETs, when so little accurate information has been obtained, we are refusing to take a stand against those that will use such “possibilities” to promote conflict. We should acknowledge that in the infotainment carnival like atmosphere of ufology, fear sells. It sells sensationalized books, movie scripts and tickets to conferences.

As long as the masses of people on this planet ignore the importance of what are now called UAP, such discussions are of little impact. This condition of denial however in my opinion will not endure forever. The so-called ETs and the US Government’s Executive Branch both have the means to end the coverup. It can end gradually or precipitously. In either way, those that want peace, cooperation and perhaps even friendship with NHIs/beings won’t have the luxury of equivocating about ET malevolence. This is because the end of the UFO coverup at some future time might set the stage for billions of dollars to be spent for building space-based weapons directed against an enemy that in my opinion doesn’t exist.

I encourage all contact and disclosure activists to discuss this issue in order to come to the more hopeful consensus that we not victims of malevolence by marauding ETs. This will not be easy, given the fear-oriented mythology that is being peddled non-stop by Hollywood and segments of the flying saucer subculture. In light of recent revelations about UAP coming from the whistleblowers David Grusch and Jake Barber it is urgent that these discussions to begin.

Comments from 2019-2020 when this blog was first posted.

CG:A friend of mine, now deceased, had a story to tell, long before the debate about abductions. He was a native American and was in the Vietnam war. He was tasked with dropping Agent Orange on crops and jungles. This exposed him to the then unreported effects of Agent Orange.

All during his life he was connected to the beings in UFOs. This lasted throughout the war as well. My friend described his being taken aboard UFOs and had the common sense to not fight it. He told me that he was driving through the desert in the Southwest when a UFO the size of a freight train pulled up across the road. he waited patiently for them to come to him. He did not fight them nor argue with their needs.

It was during the war that he almost lost both legs due to a nearby landmine. He was taken to the barracks hospital, shipped from there to Hawaii where he was told that his legs would have to be amputated just below the knees.

A nurse, for some odd reason decided to wheel him to an empty ward where there were windows for him to look out of while he awaited the day of his surgery. The nurse failed to return. During this time alone he saw a bright craft pull over a nearby hill. He passed out.

When he awoke, he was still alone in the room. Sometime later the nurse finally returned apologizing about her negligence. That she had no idea at all why she had forgotten him and suddenly remembered. She immediately began to change the bandages on his legs. My friend noticed her unusual expression as she did so. She was astonished at the amount of healing which had taken place during the time which had elapsed. She called the doctors to come and look at his legs. They too were astonished, so much so that they informed him that they were mistaken and that they would treat his legs to continue their healing. But they were doubtful if he would ever walk again.

  • My friend, a victim of an explosion and Agent Orange regained the use of both legs. He showed them to me, and I have to say that the scars were horrific, the muscle damage must have been severe, but we walked many miles together.

JL:Joseph has been studying the UFO phenomenon for over seven years at a higher level to which few people have access. The information comes from several channels, and the information is very well shared and carefully approached. The cases of cattle mutilation are in the American area and less in Europe. Most of the subjects talked about the appearance of black military helicopters belonging to the United States. Which may be a cover of the phenomenon from some top-secret American military structures. Mutilation of cattle can be a warning, as well as circles in agricultural fields. They need tissue for genetic engineering. But it can be a warning to the human race not to play with fire.

If we talk about abductions here, things are much more complicated. I am fully convinced that behind the phenomenon of complete death, but also of clinical death is the same power. I know several cases in which the subjects spoke of the transfer of souls from one being to another. Or about the energization of the bodies of some subjects by these entities. Or the transfer of a fetus from one woman to another. Which leads me to believe that beyond words, legends, ambiguities, and preconceived ideas there are supreme beings who coordinate everything related to our life and death.

Preparing to leave the body through various old techniques reminds us that this type of approach isn’t completely unknown. If we look at the legends, we will see the connection between these methods and the beings in the stars. So what I said above is perfectly true.

  • Kathleen Marden: For the past 65 years, NHI has attempted to warn humanity against the use of nuclear weapons. They have repeatedly expressed concern about an environmental collapse. When will we begin to listen?

Joseph Burkes It is likely that humanity will not heed their call and the consequences over the next 100 years will be devastating. Global climate change will likely lead to massive crop failure, starvation and resultant wars will cause the unnecessary premature deaths of hundreds of millions. The Earth will of course survive. Her capacity for generating new life is tremendous, but our civilization will be pushed to the breaking point.

I have envisioned a radical long -term approach to these enormous problems. I imagine a social movement can be created that links contact with UFO intelligences and the potential peaceful benefits of more open contact with them, to possible solutions to the fundamental challenges facing humanity.

This worldwide campaign will acknowledge that full and open contact can only be achieved when we end war and create a cooperative society based on environmental protection and social justice. Like the struggle to end slavery or to win the right to vote for women, this process will unfold not over decades, but more likely generations.

I believe that contact experiencers will play a vital role in the organizing of this proposed “Cosmic Peace” movement. At the moment we are emerging out of the shadows. Experiencers are sharing their stories bravely, weathering a storm of ridicule and denial, and in the process laying the foundation for creating organizations that will carry forward the message of peace, environmental protection, and social justice.

LM: If the Human race found out that its government stole its future it would be planetary revolution. Imagine a world without money. Imagine the Cosmic Economic System on Earth…

Joseph Burkes: We will collectively find out LM And yes there will be a revolution of spirit and action that will unite the planet on the basis of environmental and social justice. Such colossal transformations are pre-requisites for more open, direct, and equitable relations with UAP intelligences. They have the technology not only to cure cancer and heart diseases, but also to provide us with clear, non-polluting energy. When such a peacefully revolutionary process will prevail, I can’t predict. But I know we are on our way. In my judgment we are being prepared for this mission by a fierce desire to survive, thrive and most importantly by the help of “friends in high places.”

JK: Have to keep a weapons test secret?
Paying farmers for their lost livestock would blow the secret?
Don’t need the entire cow? Just remove the glands and leave behind the rest.
Gotta collect glands quickly, quietly, unseen from a sample group of animals spread out over hundreds of miles? Use helicopters at night.

Need some kind of cover to hide the obvious fact that livestock has been found mutilated all around the world, particularly downwind from known US bases and test ranges?

Just circulate rumors of scary aliens seeking hamburgers!

Aerosols (nuclear, chemical, biological) from weapons tests spread for hundreds of miles, effectiveness of the weapons can only be properly evaluated based on knowing how far, and where they spread.

“Since the 1950s thyroids of animals have been studied as bio monitors for environmental radioactivity after nuclear tests and accidents. The pioneer in these studies was Lester Van Middlesworth (University of Tennessee)…”

Joseph Burkes: Thank you so much JK for giving important information about what I imagine was a black ops project as part of this issue. The original cases of mutilations in Colorado, if memory serves me correctly, involved animals being moved into sheds that could not accommodate their size. There was high strangeness evident in my judgment that is the signature of UFO Intelligences. As you point out correctly there was a major human element as well. The actions of a government that imagines instruments of genocide (H and A bombs) are so necessary that their production is allowed to threaten the health of its citizens, reflects a level of consciousness that must be eliminated. What will replace the greed and lust for power? The simple embrace of oneness that is the basis for all our wisdom traditions, both human and ET will hopefully suffice.

TK: You think there’s any link between theatre of mind you mention in point one and DMT? I believe there are definitely alien consciousnesses out there. I think they’re also ancient and timeless. As a species we were in touch with this for thousands of years. Various indigenous peoples on separate continents with isolated cultures all observing the same beings through compounds containing DMT. Possibly psilocybin too but my own experiences have never been ‘alien’ with psilo. The opposite. At one with earth type feelings. Like being home. DMT on the other hand is a whole different ball game. I’ve seen and interacted with beings that make your Grey’s seem pretty boring. Whether it’s two totally different things or the same, I wonder….

Joseph Burkes: Thanks for the detailed comment TK. I am not sure that the statement, “Various indigenous peoples on separate continents with isolated cultures all observing the same beings through compounds containing DMT. ” I have only read two books on the subject and from that limited knowledge I believe that there are similarities between the some of the beings encountered. DMT like all anomalous experiences are filtered through every person’s individual and collective consciousness. So, given the cultural similarities between indigenous cultures as compared to Western “advanced” urban ones, you might expect similar types of beings. But “the same” I am not aware of that.

I am not sure what you mean by “your Grays.” I assume that you don’t have any anomalous experiences with them. Mine have been mostly blocked, I assume by amnesia associated with “missing time.”
I would like to remind you and other members of this group that it bears the name CE-5 Initiative. Although there is no organizational link to CSETI, there is a historical one. I am one of the last living former Working Group Coordinators from the activist pool that was operational a quarter of a century ago. As such, I recall the guidelines that were developed by the CSETI Director and his assistant Ms. Shari Adamiak, now deceased and still painfully missed. Our mission then, as now, is to establish ties to the intelligences associated with the flying saucer phenomenon that are popularly referred to as “the ETs.” Although there are opportunities for personal growth (intellectual, emotional, and most importantly spiritual) that is not our primary objective.

The use of mind-altering drugs should be discouraged today as it was discouraged back in the 1990s. Although many people because of circumstances beyond their control are compelled to do solo CE-5 work, this is not the preferred mode. The use of alcohol, THC, hallucinogens etc. is strongly discouraged for a multitude of reasons that have to do with maintaining group focus and cohesion, as well as to avoid creating an undisciplined “party time” atmosphere during our volunteer contact work.

TK: Me neither, Joseph. You imply that the aliens can alter our ‘mindscape’. I’m saying maybe that’s a symbiotic and ancient relationship we once understood. Specifically DMT. It’s a very different experience to anything else, its archetypal ‘entities’ are as alien as it gets and many ppls experiences can be likened to a DMT trip. It’s uncanny. Also, DMT is endogenous….

Rafi Simonton 1.) My experience is as “abduction.” The quotation marks because I refuse to settle for any explanation, including the assumption that they are ETs. Be they benevolent or malevolent, physical, or spiritual. Getting past any either/or, in my view, is an important part of this phenomenon. So that we actually live in the post-Einstein world of relativity, ambiguity, and uncertainty.

2.) It’s difficult to know what to make of this. Dissection doesn’t make sense for creatures allegedly able to pass humans through walls. Disinformation by some human group? That doesn’t explain all the evidence, either. Jacques Vallee has some hair-raising accounts of physical human harm caused by UFOs in Brazil, 1977. Again, my guess is that it could be related to 1.) Prevents us from falling into the de facto religious stance of passively awaiting and obeying some external savior.

3.) A contrast to the mostly female New Age seeming channelers, who receive messages about how we should be peaceful, loving, and preserve eco diversity. As if we didn’t already know. Messages without any helpful suggestions as to how to achieve any of that, especially regarding disbelievers. These tech types tend to be very right-wing men. Whose “logic” is airtight, since any lack of evidence, any questioning, any opposition to their views is dismissed as part of a cover up. I see a parallel to some segments of esotericism; the ones fixated on a Golden Age. If perfection is in the past, any change is simply diminishment and decay. Change is bad, likely the product of evil conspiracies.

4.) Genome modification is related to the older version of DNA determinism. Remember “The Selfish Gene?” Pop sci articles are often claims of something about to be explained as genetic. Another New Age trope was “activation of the 3rd strand of DNA.” (Yes, I know there is such as intramolecular TFOs, but they mean something physical as engineered by ETs or as a product of enlightened ascension.) For which zero evidence. I wonder if the mind set will change now that epigenetics is at the forefront. Pop Lamarckianism might be interesting.

“…UFO Intelligences are often deliberately deceptive…” Yes. As are we in ourselves, meaning that we misinterpret or tune out lots of environmental cues. Why wouldn’t we do the same for info received through some form of ESP? Bernardo Kastrup, in his book More Than Allegory, (140) says: “The noetic imagination can both symbolically /perceive/ a transcendent order and /create/ idiosyncratic experiences in the form of fantasies, it often being hard to differentiate between the two. It is this difficulty in telling personal fantasy from transcendent insight that lies at the heart of much of the metaphysical hysteria at the fringes of contemporary culture.”

  • DC: The phenomenon is complex, and our ideas about it are often not sophisticated enough to capture that complexity, and we should be appropriately skeptical on many fronts. On those points I most definitely agree.

Rafi Simonton: Yes, “skeptical” sensu strictu, as not settling for an answer prematurely. Not as the rejection of evidence a priori because as an empiricist or rationalist, I KNOW what is or isn’t possible. I’m sure you

  • Joseph Burkes Thank you Rafi Simonton for your learned comments. I am curious beyond describing yourself as one that has experienced an “abduction” do you consider yourself a contact or disclosure activist. I ask this question because this is the audience I hope to reach, although contact experiencers that have so much to share as you, are always welcome to dialog with.

Rafi Simonton: I suppose I could be described as a “contactee” of the Transcendent. That’s my main focus. I’m also someone with the usual abilities often reported by those who encounter UFOs or ETs or UTs or certain other anomalous experiences–forms of ESP like clairvoyance, telepathy, precognition, OBEs, and contact with (for me) the recently dead. I also have some shamanic background. A factor may be that I’m transgendered, a characteristic that also is a + for such experiences.
All of these phenomena have so much in common that there seems to be some overarching theme. IMO, quite possibly Whitley Strieber’s “this is what evolution looks like to a conscious mind.” And by evolution, I mean on several levels–physical (reactivating right brain while retaining that hard-won left,) mental (noetic; possibly as far as idealism,) and Transcendent (contact with consciousness as Mind at Large. If I use the word G-d,” I prefer the Jewish practice since that is a reminder that we don’t understand the referent in full.)

  • Joseph Burkes :Thanks for the explanation. My interest is in discovering whether a social movement combining spirituality with progressive politics can be created linking UFOs to the fundamental challenges facing our civilization. Rather ambitious to the point of being foolish I suspect. But like so many experiencers I have a sense of mission, and this is the course I have chosen. Shalom.

Rafi Simonton: Joseph Burkes, I was a professional local campaign mgr. (WA state.) I gave up when the Ds abandoned labor in the early 80s. Which I thought morally reprehensible and politically stupid. It’s very difficult to keep union members and small business owners, eco activists and rural folks, feminists, and adherents of trad religions in the same room, as I have. Easier to take large donations…I’m sure you know from whom. But this dimension, known theologically as the prophetic (social justice,) tends to get pushed aside by mystics, whose focus is on Oneness. I’m also an experienced mystic– I know how wonderful that feels. But no excuse for neglecting consensus reality.

I get that sense of mission. Even to the point of giving up what you thought your life was about. Kastrup’s is to the empiricists; he speaks their language. Jeff Kripal loved math but was driven to do comparative religion. Skills by which he can see how anomalous experiences, like UFO contact, are strong signals that /something big/ is happening world-wide.

Count me in; I’m down with the political, too.

J. A. I have done a lot of thinking about this wondering why I was chosen early on and my connections with them throughout the coming years (my schooling) etc…. Humanity has been programmed to exploit their own emotions and to speculate and overthink everything… To stubbornly believe lies, and even fight for them, even when they are shown the truth…
My first contact at 5 years old in 1955 I thought I was helping a small child who was lost in an ice field… I took his arm and led him over to what must have been his ship walked up and knocked on the door and asked if they had lost someone…I saw in an ice field in central Alberta Ca., a tall dark blonde Caucasian looking man dressed like an Indian sage smiling back at me and thanking me.
Before I experienced four to five hours of missing time.
I wondered if it was because they thought me kind or brave?…
But whatever the reason I can only say thank you so much for the continued interest in me that taught me to be able to see the truth… even though sometimes I’m a bit lonely unit…but little by little I see it coming about.
More & more I see others finally coming around..,
it’s not that they’re overly kind or overly mean, they too have an agenda & they just don’t like to put up with a bunch of stubborn whiny babies, who think the only reason that they’re here is to fly around in the sky and give the occupants of this planet a thrill.. there is an important job to do.
Not being negative, just think of it as tough love & 65 years of contact
