My name is Joseph Burkes. I am a lifelong volunteer peace and social justice activist as well as a retired internal medicine physician having completed 30 years of service for the Kaiser Health Plan. I have been married to Yael Bentovim since 1975 and we live in Southern California. We also have a vacation home 250 miles north of San Francisco in a small university town called Arcata in Humboldt County. I have volunteered as a UFO investigator since 1992 working with, the Center for the Study of ET Intelligence (CSETI), MUFON, the Peruvian network of contact workers known as Rahma, the Foundation for Research into ET and Extraordinary Experiences (FREE) and the newly formed Consciousness and Contact Research Institute (CCRI).
For five years in the 1990s, I volunteered as a Working Group Coordinator for the Close Encounters of the Fifth Kind Initiative and have continued to promote the worldwide efforts of activists that I call “The Contact Underground.” My writings focus on the mechanisms of contact. These include the Virtual Experience Hypothesis that describes the role of illusion as a mechanism of contact during close encounters, as well as the intelligence-counterintelligence model for UFO investigations. Most importantly, I believe that in order to establish full direct relations with the non-human intelligences associated with the flying saucer phenomenon, humankind needs to create a sustainable world peace based on social and environmental justice. This will require a spiritual transformation of humanity’s mass consciousness that will likely unfold over generations, or perhaps more likely over centuries. In my view, UFO intelligences are assisting humanity during this period of rapid change for Earth civilization.
I am co-author of three compendiums with the flying saucer theme:
- In “Paths to Contact” edited by Jeff Becker, I describe the field investigations that I participated in during the 1990s.
- In “Beyond UFOs” edited by Rey Hernandez with co-author Preston Dennett, I report in detail several cases of alleged UAP associated medical healings drawn from the FREE Experiencer Survey.
- In the CCRI compendium “A Greater Reality” edited by Rey Hernandez and published in 2022, I describe the consciousness connection present during HICE (Human Initiated Contact Events). In addition, I discuss how UAP intelligences use illusions as mechanisms of contact. PRIME CONTACTEES
Prime Contactees I: a Special Kind of Contact Experiencer and Why They are. Important. When I first described this type of UFO experiencer in May of 2014, I was surprised to see a controversy result. “Prime Contactees” are long term experiencers who act as human UFO magnets. Primes typically have a history of multiple sightings often when other witnesses are present who can confirm the Primes’ cooperative relationships with UAP Intelligences. One result of publicizing the importance of Prime Contactees was that I was accused of trying to create a popularity contest in which ordinary contactees’ role would be seen as insignificant next to the “high-status” of the so-called “Primes.” Fellow senior contact activists angrily informed me that I was being “divisive.” For the full blog, click on the link below.
Prime Contactees II: Prime Contactees II: As part of my contact network organizing activities during the 1990s, I sought out individuals who had become the focus of UFO intelligences. In this report I describe a contact activist who was a potential “Prime.” I met him in England. He told me that as a teenager he awoke one night in full lotus position despite never studying yoga. I realized that UFO intelligences were possibly training activists on an unconscious level. Perhaps countless activists are being prepared via a consciousness connection to become volunteer contact workers.
The young man that I call “Misha” played an important role in linking me to UFO intelligences. He became a kind of “guide” that facilitated many contact events for me and our CE5 team. He was an example of a special kind of contact experiencer that I would later designate as a “Prime Contactee.” Misha and others like him functioned as “human UFO magnets.” Once “Misha” joined our group, the level of contact went way up.

Prime Contactees can request UFO sightings which subsequently occur while others are present. All the “Primes” who I have encountered with one exception have been men. In July of 1997, I worked with a middle-class homemaker in Southern England. She facilitated a series of unusual encounters with UAP intelligences.
“Prime” Contactees play a special role in facilitating interactions with UFO intelligences. They have the unusual ability to request sightings with others present and UAP phenomena manifest.

You can’t control a person who wants “no thing.” I suspect that Flying Saucer Intelligences are feared by our planet’s elites because they can’t be controlled by the usual methods applied to the general population.
