Joseph Burkes MD responds to “Preliminary Assessment by Avi Loeb of the Second Release of UFO Files by the U.S. Department of War”

Summary: Harvard’s Dr. Avi Loeb has published an important statement on the U.S. Department of War’s second release of UFO information. In response I point out that although modern science and engineering have been transformative for Earth civilization, the scientific model might not be a good fit for UFO research. I suggest that an intelligence-counter intelligence model as originally proposed by UFO researcher Val Germann might be a better tool to investigate what are now called Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena.

My Reply:

Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena are so complex that we will likely only get a handle on them by approaching these challenges from multiple points of view. I welcome professional science to address this mystery. Thank you Dr. Avi Loeb for taking up this challenge.

Science and its application as engineering have been enormously successful in advancing as well as threatening our civilization. There are some human endeavors however where science doesn’t apply. Writing a love letter, composing music or playing basketball are common enough examples.

I suspect that UFO phenomenon might be another realm where scientific methods might not be the best fit for inquiry. I believe science attempts to describe the natural world through repeated observations using technology as in say astronomy, as well as carrying out experiments under controlled conditions. I think scientists assume that there are natural “objective” laws that are constant across vast stretches of the Cosmos.

We are faced with the dilemma that there might be nothing “objective” about what appear to be an array of non-human intelligences that can not only as Dr. Vallee has stated, “manipulate spacetime” but also may refuse to allow repeated observations under controlled conditions as exampled by what has been happening at Skinwalker Ranch. At that paranormal hot spot, equipment has been deliberately interfered with or outright destroyed.

Perhaps better than the scientific paradigm to investigate UFOs is the Intelligence-counterintelligence Model first proposed by Val Germann in the 1990s. Sadly his suggestion has been mostly ignored by UFO aficionados.

I have modified this model for the purposes of supporting the network of volunteer contact workers that I call “the Contact Underground.” For the last fifty years groups of UAP experiencers have been using thought projection to attract anomalous craft in the course of fieldwork. This endeavor is driven by what I imagine are high ideals, for peace and solidarity between conscious intelligent beings. If the revelations of whistleblower Jake Barber are true, then psi capable “psionic assets” have played a similar role albeit not necessarily for peaceful interactions.
